RSS feeds! Exclaimations!

So I sorta knew how feeds worked, (I have a few that I watch on my other blog, but it's mostly on a person to person basis and not so much news articles). Anyway, this exercise just proved to me that even though I get in a bit of rut with the sites I visit over and over again, discovering the vast and varied array of things I didn't even know that I was missing is a bit mind-blowing. I found a bunch of feeds that were really interesting and then following feeds off of those sites to other and on and on and on. . . . it kinda made my brain explode a bit. Obviously I don't need to look at everything that I subscribed to, but the potential to just get lost in the info is very tempting (similar to wandering around wikipedia, vaguely satisfy yet oddly scary cause I'll start with looking up how vinegar is made and end up finding out how the second Defenestration of Prague lead to the start of the Thirty Years War. (You'd think, since there were two incidents of important defenestration in Prague's history, it would have continued as a political institution, yet alas, the fad seems to have died out. . . pity. . .

Back on topic! Fun exercise with overtones of evilness for leading me down the paths of really interesting yet not truly vital info. Not necessarily "trivia," just "stuff."

EDT: On a professional/work related front, I can see RSS feeds being very useful in keeping up with local and national news and especially helpful in research situations with the topic search option on Bloglines. I found some news and other "serious" feeds to subscribe to, but most of them are just fun feeds that looked cool at the time (I have little to no will power, am a sad individual)
